Poetry Is The Window To The Soul
Writing poetry has helped me learn to express my emotions, rather than bottle them up. Every post on this blog is my own original work. Thank you for reading, S.B. Robertson

Invisible
Completely undetected.
I've made it this far,
Completely undirected.
Nobody seems to notice,
The underlying truth.
Why go through this,
Wasting my youth.
He never even noticed,
The underlying pain.
Like I could just vanish,
Into the pouring rain.

World Divided
Two sides,
To one equation.
One of them hidden,
From the main situation.
You have them,
And me.
Each side you condemn,
to never fully see.
On one half is family,
The other, love.
Separate neither is free,
To ever truly evolve.
Secrets within secrets,
Compounded with lies.
Have you any regrets,
Hidden from our eyes?
Time for one,
But not the other.
As you run,
Between family and lover.
One side gets your time,
The other, your heart.
The higher you climb,
The further they part.
Endless questions,
About your life.
Mysterious actions,
and unspoken strife.
Always alone,
But never have time.
Your skills you hone,
While I just rhyme.
Primary,
Full of family.
Secondary,
Just me.
Carefully ensuring,
That worlds never cross.
Paths veering,
Obscured by moss.
Life like a coin,
Double sided.
Will you ever join,
Your worlds divided?

Waves
Lost and drowning,
In an endless sea.
Around me is nothing,
But fear and insecurity.
Beating down on me,
Wave after wave.
All that waits beneath,
Is a watery grave.
Will I sink,
Or will I swim?
Or both I think,
On a miserable whim.
Lost without hope,
Of being free.
Unless you bring a rope,
And come save me.
The scars of the past,
Are weights on my feet.
Sinking too fast,
Till the bottom I meet.
Stuck on repeat,
Driving me crazy.
Admitting defeat,
Everything else hazy.
Can't get it to stop,
No matter what I do.
But it will drop,
Whenever I'm with you.

Together
You and me together,
Can't get much closer.
I hope this lasts forever,
That we're never over.
Your love,
Unconditional acceptance.
Into your arms I dove,
As my heart begins to prance.
In spite of the past,
Here you still are.
We've fallen so fast,
And made it so far.
Endless persistence,
And patient waiting.
You wore down my resistence,
All doubts started fading.
Something so magical,
Between you and I.
Caused me to fall,
As heart starts to fly.
Loving everything,
That makes you you.
Even when you sing,
Loud and off tune.
Who you are,
Is truly amazing.
We've made it so far,
With no signs of failing.
Near or far,
The spark still burns.
Wherever you are,
My heart yearns.

Priceless
But amazing all the same.
The memories reflected,
When I hear your name.
Everything about you,
Is truly wonderful.
The words I say are true,
You are really someone special.
You see past the scars,
To the person inside.
These moments of ours,
There's no need to hide.
When we're together,
It feels so natural.
You're the one I'd rather,
Be next to than anyone else at all.
Your love is the greatest gift,
I never expected to get.
My moods begin to lift,
Cause you're the best part yet.
Before we met,
My life was a mess.
And because of that,
Our love is priceless.

Healing Heart
That changed it all.
To the challenge you've risen,
As I began to fall.
All the pain from the past,
Wiped away by you.
Will this relationship last,
Remaining strong and true?
Only time can tell,
But I believe it will.
You pull me out of my shell,
And the holes begin to fill.
From everything he said,
That scarred my head and heart.
Which you started to fix,
Right from the start.
What will be brought,
By each tomorrow?
That which can't be bought,
Just given, not borrowed.
You've brought upon a change,
In such short of time.
And began to rearrange,
This damaged heart of mine.
Just being who you are,
Is truly the best gift.
Everything you've done so far,
Has caused my spirits to lift.

New Beginnings
But here we are.
Feelings reflected,
Getting us this far.
Eyes glowing,
Smiling constantly.
Emotions showing,
Between you and me.
A connection forged,
To tie us together.
A level of comfort has emerged,
Leading us to trust each other.
Things have only just begun,
Between us both.
So let's have fun,
In this period of growth.

Distance
Between you and me.
Going through the motions,
Just trying to be.
Rarely together,
Always apart.
Promises of forever,
Offering your heart.
When shall we next meet,
Reunited once more?
Distance reduced from miles to feet,
Until we're separated like before.
Air filled with tension,
Caused by separation.
Waiting for redemption,
Gained through communication.
Hours upon hours,
And miles in between.
This separation of ours,
No company to glean.
Less and less we talk,
As you well know.
So once again let's walk,
And let the happiness grow

Concussion
Lost memory.
Everything is not,
The way it should be.
Cotton headed,
Hard to focus.
What is remembered,
And what is bogus?
Lost time,
Forgotten events.
Everything should be fine,
If my mind had so much as a glimpse.
How long has it been,
Since Memory was lost?
What events were seen,
That came at this dreadful cost?
Will I ever remember,
Or not know again?
That fateful day in September.
When life took a spin.

The Pain
As the years have passed along.
You act like you're the only one,
Hurt by things done wrong.
But that's not true,
I'll tell you why.
I've been hurt by you,
Honest, I won't lie.
Sometimes you're a hypocrite,
Acting all alone.
While over here I sit,
Waiting by the phone.
You say one thing,
But seem to mean another.
All the while my phone won't ring,
Raising questions from my mother.
How many times you've made me cry,
I truly have no clue.
So, Dear, tell me why,
I haven't heard from you.
If it is time alone,
That has served you oh so well.
Why do you gripe and groan,
But never want to tell.
Without me,
You can cope.
But honey, see,
Without you I lose hope.

Conflicted
Nobody wins.
Can't find a verdict,
Or where it all ends.
This or that,
One never knows.
How or what,
The solution never shows.
Which choice is right,
And which one is wrong?
The internal fight,
All your life long.
Who are you now,
And will you choose to be?
All that matters is how,
Trust me, you'll see.
What was your choice,
And its impact on others?
You decided to voice,
Telling your druthers.
Will others be involved,
Or only you?
How many issues resolved,
Plenty or few?
The question is,
Should you say.
Or should this,
Stay locked away?

Car Crash
Storm of flying glass.
What's done is done,
And time continues to pass.
Loud sirens and flashing lights,
With people rushing to and fro.
I just won the fight of all fights,
But what happened, I don't know.
Curtains and sterile white,
Not sure where we are.
Something's not quite right,
But mom thanks her lucky stars.

Insecurities
Buried deep.
Built of regrets,
A cliff that's steep.
Lying in wait,
Striking when you're alone.
A terrible fate,
To the world, unknown.
Fears and worries,
All combined.
Imagined furries,
Of people within your mind.
Sinister and dark,
They tear you apart.
The future seems stark,
To your battered heart.
Friends try to guide you,
Thinking they know best.
If only they knew,
That which you can't get off your chest.

Powerful Forces
Equal in power.
Love is one of the sweetest choices,
While hate is just sour.
With love,
Comes great joy.
There is always enough,
When shared between a girl and a boy.
With hate,
Comes misery.
It changes your fate,
You see?
With time,
Both change.
Although they don't truely align,
They each cover quite a range.

Love's Spell
Comes wonder.
Connecting hearts,
One to another.
Be it you,
And me.
Or someone else,
Entirely.
With time's meddlesome help,
Love spins its spell.
No one sees it coming,
Just like me when I fell.
It's a never ending cycle,
You see?
Forging new bonds for people,
Like you and me.

Life's Path
Nobody knows.
Lost in the world,
As the stories unfurl.
Who to love,
And who to hate?
Life will give you a shove.
You just have to wait.
Second chances,
Broken trust.
Mending fences,
Ditching rust.
The mystery of life,
Cracking the code.
Troubles and strife,
Along the crooked road.

April Fools
We do this every year.
Fooling the gullibles,
Even the ones we hold dear.
No one suspects,
Till it's too late.
Memory recollects,
The jester's favorite date.
Hope
There is always an answer.
Warmth can melt the frost,
When you are sure.
Nothing lasts forever,
But change can be good.
Don't always say never,
Instead, do what your heart would.
Good hidden in misery,
Waiting to be found.
Let your soul be free,
And have a look around.

Heartbreak
The loss of love the biggest betrayal.
Yet what the heart says goes unheard,
The emptiness of your heart to your soul is fatal.
What once was whole,
Never to be the same again.
You've played your role,
But your actions were in vain.
Time means nothing anymore,
Just the sorrow that ensues.
The rest of the world lies behind a closed door,
While you're left to deal with your issues.
If you will ever feel joy again, no one knows,
A life of love gone down the drain.
To others, your sorrow shows,
But none can fix that which only time can gain.
